Tonkeeper streamlines this with two core mechanics: the gasless feature and the Tonkeeper Battery. The gasless feature lets users pay gas fees directly from their token balances with supported tokens (currently USDT), while the Battery acts as a prepaid fee account in the wallet. Battery charges can be purchased using bank cards, USDT, or tokens like Notcoin, and the Battery covers a wider variety of actions, including NFT and domain transfers as well as contract interactions.
How Tonkeeper Battery Pays Fees Without Toncoin
When users receive tokens or NFTs but lack Toncoin, the Battery steps in by acting as an off-chain wallet account that pays transaction fees. Each Battery “charge” covers a standard blockchain transaction, while more complex actions (like NFT swaps or smart contract usage) consume multiple charges. Users top up their Battery via bank cards, USDT, or Notcoin, all managed in-app.
With this system, there’s no longer a need to hunt for Toncoin before transacting. Anyone can receive NFTs, tokens, or take part in staking with Battery-charged fees. Gasless transfers, meanwhile, focus on mainstream stablecoins like USDT and do not cover NFTs or non-standard tokens.
For builders, this enables more seamless token or reward distribution: users can interact with gifts and rewards instantly without fee friction. W5 contract wallets are now the default for new Tonkeeper users, ensuring compatibility and simplifying deployment for projects targeting mainstream adoption.
Limitations and Specific Use Cases
Tonkeeper’s gasless flow supports only certain stable tokens—chiefly USDT—limiting its use for NFTs, domain transactions, or more volatile assets. These scenarios still require users to rely on the Battery feature and to pre-purchase transaction charges within the app.
Compatibility depends on wallet version. The gasless feature was designed for W5 wallets; users on older v4 wallets may experience extra steps and transaction pauses since v4 cannot handle gasless mechanics natively. For these legacy accounts, the app must temporarily fund Toncoin into the wallet, causing a delay of about 20 seconds per transaction. To benefit from the smoothest experience, users and builders should use W5 wallets, now the Tonkeeper default.
Gasless and Battery features together mean that users can handle basic transfers and a wide variety of on-chain actions without first owning Toncoin. This makes it much easier for on-ramps, games, and Telegram Mini Apps to offer smooth onboarding—everyone can use tokens and NFTs immediately upon receipt.
