How to Exchange a Telegram Gift for Stars

Telegram gift exchange: Learn how to exchange a Telegram gift for Stars, including rates, rules, exclusions, and withdrawal conditions for creators

Currently, the Telegram gift showcase has eleven regular gifts available for sale in denominations of 15, 25, 50, or 100 Stars. Limited editions from the past are sold out. Stars earned from exchanging gifts are treated the same as channel and bot revenues: creators can withdraw them via Fragment once their balance exceeds 1,000 Stars. Stars purchased directly with money remain locked for use within Telegram and cannot be withdrawn.

Exchange Rules and Time Limits

You can only exchange a regular Telegram gift for Stars within seven days of receiving it. After this window, the gift cannot be exchanged. Each exchange permanently destroys the gift and returns 85% of its original price (rounded to the nearest whole Star) to your Telegram Stars balance. These specifics are managed via Telegram’s API at the level of each gift.

Collectible gifts and any obtained via auction are not eligible for exchange. If a limited-edition gift is upgraded to collectible status, it also loses exchange eligibility, even though it gains a unique model for resale. Once upgraded, this process is irreversible and eliminates any option to exchange for Stars.

The eleven regular gifts currently in the showcase (15, 25, 50, and 100 Stars) remain available for exchange but cannot be upgraded. These may be used for profile decoration or exchanged back for Stars, subject to the conditions above.

TON Drop Hub take: The exchange rules favor making early, deliberate decisions. Upgrading gifts forecloses the option of returning them for Stars, and exchanges are irreversible. If flexibility is your goal, act quickly: collectibles may fetch resale value later, but you lose the Stars fallback.

Which Telegram Gifts Qualify for Exchange

Only regular, unmodified Telegram gifts can be exchanged for Stars and only within a strict seven-day window. The exchange always destroys the original gift, and the user receives 85% of the gift’s price as Stars, rounded to the nearest whole Star. For example, a 100-Star gift gives 85 Stars, and a 15-Star gift gives 13. This exchange rate is fixed and visible in the Telegram API as convert_stars. Once exchanged, the gift cannot be reclaimed or re-exchanged.

Collectible gifts, auctioned items, or any limited-edition gift upgraded to collectible status are ineligible for exchange. These typically can only be sold or transferred on marketplaces like Fragment. The only gifts currently eligible are the eleven standard types sold directly from the showcase in the available denominations.

TON Drop Hub take: Only plain, directly-purchased Telegram gifts are eligible, and the seven-day window is strict. Gifts from secondary markets or those that have been upgraded immediately lose this functionality.

Stars Withdrawal and Use Conditions

When you exchange a regular Telegram gift, the transaction is permanent and must be done within seven days of receipt. The original gift is destroyed, and you receive 85% of its original price in Stars, rounded to the nearest full unit. Collectible gifts and auction-acquired gifts cannot be exchanged under any circumstances.

Stars obtained through gift exchange (or through channel and bot monetization) can be withdrawn, once you have at least 1,000 Stars, using the Fragment platform. Stars purchased directly cannot be withdrawn—they can only be spent within Telegram.

Gift exchanges cannot be reversed, and upgrading a limited-edition gift to collectible status completely removes the exchange-to-Stars option. Instead, collectibles are intended for resale on external marketplaces.

TON Drop Hub take: The 85% exchange rate and seven-day limit are absolute, and collectible or auctioned gifts are excluded. Always check the status and eligibility of your gift before trying to exchange.

A quick summary: Only regular gifts can be exchanged for Stars, only within seven days, at 85% of their original price (rounded). Collectibles and auction items are excluded, and all exchanges are final.

TON Drop Hub take: Check every gift’s type before exchanging—collectibles cannot be redeemed, and the exchange rate is not cost-neutral. Decide whether to hold, upgrade, or exchange within the window to avoid losing options.
